New Law will see child booster banned in UK9 May 16
World News – New Law will see the backless booster being banned for Small Children in the UK
A new law in the UK will ban booster seats for small children in a bid to save lives.
The law, which will be introduced in December, will only allow the use of backless booster seats for children taller than 125cm and weighing more than 22kg.
At present, children weighing as little as 15kg can travel in backless booster seats.
This means that children as young as three years old can travel in the seats.
The reason for this change is that the backless seats do not provide adequate support or protection for young children, but they are used as they are cheaper.
Experts have argued that high-backed booster seats are safer, and it is worth paying extra for the safety of the children.
The new rules will only apply to new products appearing on the market, so parents using a booster seat now will still be able to do so without breaking the law.
